Coffee & Desserts: The Perfect Fix For A Rainy Day!

I absolutely dread the monsoon. From the soul sucking humidity and the rain clogging the road, creating a nuisance to the instances of dirty water supply due to overflowing sewage; I think these are enough reasons to not like this season. But then again, I do always enjoy a nice cup of coffee with some savouries or desserts on a rainy evening. For those of you who like me enjoy some good snacks with your coffee, Mr. & Mitts Bakery in collaboration with Bili Hu Coffee, bring you a special monsoon combo you just can’t miss out on.

Mitts X Bili Hu Monsoon Special Combo (Clockwise from right): Vada Pav Bombs, Sourdough Donuts, Bili Hu Monsoon Malabar Coffee, 4 Mini Desserts)

I ordered this combo for myself a few days ago and experience this beautiful amalgamation of coffee with sweets and savouries. Each combo consists of 75 gms of Bili Hu’s Monsooned Malabar Coffee in the grind of your choice along with a dessert box consisting of a Salted Caramel Choux, a Nutella Cupcake, a Blueberry Cheesecake and a Bili Hu Opera and a box of Vada Pav Bombs (4 pcs). Mitali Sahani aka Mitts, who is the brains behind this whole operation at Mr. & Mitts Bakery surprised me with a couple of their Signature Sourdough Donuts (SoDos) along with my combo.

Vada Pav Bombs

The special Monsooned Malabar Coffee comes from the Arabica AA coffee beans grown in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. These coffee beans are sent to the Malabar Coast for curing during the monsoon. This process gives the coffee some beautiful mellow flavours. I first read about this coffee in Harish Bhat’s ‘An Extreme Love of Coffee’ and I was really happy to try this coffee during this season. The Vada Pav Bombs, made with a light and pillowy bun, stuffed with the batata vada and garlic chutney was a wholesome snack to pair with the coffee. The flavours were very rich and homely and the bun had a beautiful buttery aroma that took it to a whole other level.

4 Mini Desserts (Clockwise from Right): Nutella Cupcake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Bili Hu Opera and Salted Caramel Choux

In the dessert box, two of my top favourites were the Bili Hu Opera and the Salted Caramel Choux. A French classic, the Bili Hu Opera was made with a Jaconde Sponge, Bili Hu Coffee Buttercream and Dark Chocolate Ganache. Each element perfectly layered together, brought out some of the most amazing flavours of dark chocolate paired with rich coffee. The Salted Caramel Choux was this perfectly made Choux pastry, piped with salted caramel pastry cream inside and a caramel glaze outside. It was oozing with flavours. Made with a richly flavoured homemade blueberry compote on a New York style baked cheesecake, the Blueberry Cheesecake did have its own creamy and smooth texture with the tangy punch of blueberries. And while I’m not a big Nutella fan, I did enjoy this little moist chocolate cupcake with nutella both inside and outside it.
