India is home to the largest number of hungry people in the world. In the ranking of the Global Hunger Index 2008 it covers position 66 out of 88 ranked countries and has an “alarming“ food security situation.
With such a situation prevailing in the country , a bunch of students from Institute of Hotel Management, Catering and Nutrition, Pusa, New Delhi have taken a step towards fighting this problem by organizing “Free Food Drives” at various places across the Capital.
These drives were initiated in April 2015 and have got enormous response since then. I had the honour of being associated with them twice and it was a great experience working with such dynamic and energetic people. These students use their culinary knowledge and prepare various things from Vegetable Biryani to Gajar ka Halwa. The students use the funds collected by them and from their fellow mates to organize these drives, prepare the food and serve it.
The main aim of these young minds is to use the culinary knowledge they earn from the institute for a good cause and bring a smile on the faces of the less fortunate by serving them a warm meal.
